Why is locating private utilities important?
In addition to the required 811 public utility locate, it is important to also have a third party locator visit your job site to esure all private, abandoned, and unknown subsurface structures are located and marked. Calling 811 will only locate public utilities up to the meter point, which leaves all other buried infrastructure susceptible to damge during excavation activites.
